History of Darby Elementary

Half a century ago Darby Avenue Elementary School opened along with 11 other neighboring Valley elementary schools.  Although the school did not open until September 14, 1959, Frederick S. Drake, Principal, opened the doors early to welcome the many students and parents at a special open house to acquaint them with the new campus opening with approximately 300 students. 

Darby Elementary is the outstanding school it is today because of the generous support of many donors who believe in the school’s mission.  There are numerous opportunities for parents, alumnae, parents of alumnae, grandparents, foundations and friends to partner with the school in raising funds for the outstanding programs and services that define the overall excellence of Darby. In addition to the Darby fundraisers held on campus throughout the year, the Darby Annual Fund  supports general operating costs, scholarship or restoration needs, special programs, etc. Our success in meeting fundraising goals ensures that Darby will continue to be a leader in the education of young children.

Darby Avenue Elementary PTA was also established in 1959 and is over 50 years old, too!  We were recognized by the California State PTA in May 2010 for being a Legacy PTA.
